Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
